To Kill A Mockingbird

This project involved redesigning the cover of a well-known novel, using hand-crafted imagery and typography to capture the depth of a young protagonist's journey toward understanding justice. Reimagining a familiar story called for a bold, unconventional approach — one that could stand out while staying true to the narrative's emotional core.

Art Is. Exploring The Definition of Art.

This cover was designed for Art Is: Exploring the Definition of Art by Stephen H. Williams, a book that examines the endlessly debated question of what art actually is. Rather than illustrate a single answer, the design reflects the book's spirit of inquiry — a grid of overlapping color blocks, each pairing slightly different in hue, scale, and relationship.

The repeated square-within-a-square motif suggests variation within structure: the same basic form, reinterpreted again and again, never quite the same way twice. It's a visual metaphor for the book's central idea — that "art is" not one fixed definition, but a pattern that shifts depending on who's looking and how.

The Secret History

This project reimagines the cover for Donna Tartt's The Secret History, a novel that follows a group of classics students whose obsession with beauty, morality, and ancient philosophy leads them down a dangerous path. The design centers on a fractured classical bust — split and folded like paper — visually echoing the novel's core tension between order and collapse, civility and violence.

The torn, geometric fold across the statue's face suggests something ancient being pulled apart from the inside, mirroring the characters' unraveling as their pursuit of higher truth gives way to guilt and moral decay. A muted, monochromatic palette with restrained gold typography lends the cover a literary, timeless quality — refined on the surface, unsettled underneath.

Every detail, down to the layout of the back cover and spine, was designed to feel like a cohesive, market-ready piece — treating the redesign not just as an art exercise, but as a full editorial rebrand.

Science Fiction and Philosophy. From Time Travel to Superintelligence.

This cover was designed for Science Fiction and Philosophy: From Time Travel to Superintelligence, edited by Susan Schneider — an anthology examining the deep philosophical questions raised by speculative technology. The design centers on a human face rendered entirely out of binary code, blurring the line between person and program.

As the eye — the most human, most searching part of the face — comes into focus, the surrounding features dissolve back into streams of 1s and 0s. The effect visually echoes the book's core inquiry: at what point does simulated intelligence become indistinguishable from consciousness itself, and where do we draw the line between human and machine?
